1917 * Centennial of St. Anthony of Padua Church * 2017
St. Anthony's is in the midst of a year-long celebration of the parish's inception in 1917. In November 2016, an inaugural Mass was celebrated with past clergy, religious and staff joining us.
June marked the feast of St. Anthony. To celebrate our patron, Bishop Folda celebrated Mass with us, followed by an all-school reunion, parish picnic and dance. Our centennial celebration will close with a Mass on November 18th, 2017.
The Centennial Campaign
On May 6 – 7 St. Anthony launched the Centennial Campaign with two goals in mind: (1) Remodel the sanctuary, paint the entire church interior, and clean and seal the wooden ceiling and beams. (2) initiate an endowment for the long-term financial future of the parish.
Volunteers will be calling on fellow parishioners through June and early July to invite their support.
Goal. Our campaign goal is $750,000, with $450,000 earmarked for physical improvements, and $300,000 set aside for the endowment.
Progress. As of July 13, we have received 157 gifts and pledges totaling $437,606!
Grant Award. In addition, On June 13, the Catholic Foundation awarded St. Anthony of Padua Church a Hommerding Incentive Fund grant of up to $45,000 toward the facilities portion of the St. Anthony Centennial Campaign.
Hommerding grants are restricted to capital improvement projects within the diocese. The grant is based on $1 matched for every $10 raised for the sanctuary re-design, church painting, ceiling cleaning/sealing and pews.
Matching funds are available as pledges are paid and cash is received by the parish. For example, if someone gave an unrestricted gift of $10,000 to the Centennial Campaign, it would be matched with $1,000 from the Hommerding Incentive Fund.
Special Tax Credits for Endowment Gifts. The state of North Dakota has generous tax credit incentives for planned gifts and gifts specifically restricted to endowments. Check with your tax advisor for details on how to make a qualifying gift. The Catholic Development Foundation web site provides an overview of the North Dakota Endowment Tax Credit at http://www.cdfnd.org/ndtaxcredit.
Church Painting Underway. The remodeling and painting crew began their work in the church on July 10. So Mass will be celebrated in the social hall through October.
The onset of work doesn’t mean that our Centennial Campaign is complete. It just means we have made sufficient progress to move forward, confident that our campaign goal will be attained even as work is underway.
